Colin Standish and Myrtis Fossey, co-leaders of the Canadian Party of Quebec, hold a news conference in Ottawa. The leaders are discussing a letter they sent to Canada’s political leaders demanding that the country prepare for a third referendum on Quebec independence. They are joined by their party’s Youth Critic Will Twolan. Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has pledged to hold such a referendum if his party takes power in the next provincial election.

The leader and deputy leader of the Canadian Party of Quebec, Colin Standish and Myrtis Fossey, hold a news conference in Ottawa. The leaders are calling on the federal government to protect the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and disallow what they call the “arbitrary use” of the notwithstanding clause. Quebec’s National Assembly recently voted to renew use of the notwithstanding clause to protect the province’s secularism law, Bill 21, from court challenges.

At a news conference in Ottawa, Colin Standish and Myrtis Fossey, the leader and deputy leader of the Canadian Party of Quebec, call on the federal government to protect the rights of linguistic minorities in Quebec. Standish also calls on federal Health Minister Mark Holland to reduce health-care transfer payments to the province until issues of unequal access are resolved. The Canadian Party of Quebec advocates for federalism, religious freedom and minority language rights in the province. It was launched ahead of the 2022 provincial election, where it won zero seats.
